Stephen Anthony focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition, sale, leasing and financing of commercial real estate, as well as matters for regional and national developers in connection with the acquisition, development and construction of multi-family housing utilizing federal low-income housing tax credits. As a member of the Virginia Bar, Mr. Anthony is licensed to practice in all state courts within the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Anthony served as law clerk to Hon. Rebecca Beach Smith in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in Norfolk, Va. In addition, in his final year of law school he worked with the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., where he assisted in preparing briefs and trying petty offenses in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. magna cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia. While in law school, he competed as a member of the Black Law Students Association Mock Trial Team and the National Trial Advocacy Team, as well as participating in the William Minor Lile Moot Court competition, resulting in numerous awards. Among his awards, in 2008, Mr. Anthony earned the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) national award for best advocate. In 2009, he earned the Mid-Atlantic Black Law Students Association (MABLSA) regional award for best advocate and led his team to win both the MABLSA and the NBLSA Mock Trial competitions. He served as treasurer of the University of Virginia chapter of the Black Law Student Association, as counsel to the University of Virginia Honor Committee, and as chancellor on the board of the William Minor Lile Moot Court competition. In addition, Mr. Anthony volunteered his time and services to the Virginia Innocence Project and the Charlottesville Public Defender's Office. Mr. Anthony is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He has also maintained a relationship with NBLSA, authoring the mock trial problem for the 2010-2011 Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition.
