Sheryl Weikal (formerly Ring), is a fair housing and consumer rights attorney with a litigation practice focusing on landlord-tenant law, civil rights, misdemeanor defense, and eviction and foreclosure defense.  Sheryl's practice is unique - her aim is to make sure everyone has access to an attorney, and so for many cases clients choose both their own fees and the structure of those fees. Before Ms. Weikal had her own practice, she served as legal director at Open Communities, a legal aid agency in Evanston, Illinois. Before that position, she was senior associate attorney at Berton N. Ring, P.C., where she was in charge of Mr. Ring’s complex litigation practice. Sheryl has obtained over $20,000,000 in recoveries for her clients during her career. She has successfully obtained certification in over two dozen class actions, including multiple settlements in excess of $1,000,000, two of more than 1,000 class members, and one with members spanning 38 states.  Sheryl is also responsible the oldest judgment ever vacated in Illinois (a 1961 divorce decree).  Sheryl is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Eastern District of Wisconsin.  Sheryl is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and has taught CLE classes on Fair Housing.  She has also been admitted pro hac vice in courts in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, and California. Sheryl is the author of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (“IICLE”) treatise on consumer fraud against senior citizens. She also has been a guest lecturer at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is a frequent guest on “The Young Turks,” providing legal analysis, and has been featured on ESPN Radio and podcasts including “A Pod of Their Own” and “The Infinite Inning.” Her legal analysis has appeared on Vox’s “Beyond the Box Score,” the Autopian, “Pitcher List,” “Fangraphs,” and elsewhere. Sheryl graduated summa cum laude from McDaniel College in 2009 as class valedictorian, and in the upper third of her class from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in 2012.
