My first career was selling industrial chemicals in West Michigan, rising through the sales ranks and ultimately becoming president of the Minneapolis-based Conklin Co., Inc.In addition to my college degrees, I hold the AAMS® professional designation from the College for Financial Planning®. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and currently serve on the BSA Gerald R. Ford Council Board. I have also served my country as a 2nd Lt. in the Michigan National Guard. My volunteer activities include working with the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Beacon Hill at Eastgate Board of Trustees, Boy Scouts of America, Ruffed Grouse Society and Trout Unlimited (nature conservation organizations), as well as Calvary Church.My wife, Debbie, and I live in southeast Grand Rapids. I enjoy golf, boating, travel, hunting and, of course, our nine grandchildren. Two of our three sons and their families live in the Grand Rapids area, and one is in foreign service. My son, Justin, is also an Edward Jones financial advisor, serving clients from his branch located in Ada Village in Ada, Michigan.
