Ret. Hon. Paul J. deMahy has served Division B of the Court since his election in 1986, handling full civil and criminal dockets. In 2002 Ret. Judge deMahy established the St. Martin Parish Adult Drug Treatment Court and served as its presiding judge through 2010. He served four terms as Chief Judge.Ret. Judge deMahy is a graduate of Catholic High School (New Iberia), University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University. Ret. Judge deMahy began his legal career in 1973, as an associate with the firm of Willis and Hardy. In 1981 he established a solo practice , which included serving as an Assistant Defender and Chief Defender for the 16th Judicial District Indigent Defender Office. He served St. Martinville as City Attorney from 1974 through 1986.Ret. Judge deMahy is a charter member of the American Inns of Court - Inn on the Teche, having served as its President. He is a member of the Louisiana District Judges Association, having served as a mentor for five new judges. He is a member of the American Judges Association, serving on its Board of Trustees.Ret. Judge deMahy is a member of the St. Martin Council of the Knights of Columbus, having served as its Grand Knight and serving as Parliamentarian and State Advocate of the Louisiana State Council. He is a member of the St. Martinville Kiwanis, having served as its president and as lieutenant governor of the Louisiana-Mississippi-W. Tennessee District.Ret. Judge deMahy is life-long resident of St. Martin Parish. He is married to the former Marilyn Snoddy. They have five adult children and fourteen grandchildren. Paul and Marilyn are parishioners of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church.
