After graduating from Las Cruces High School and becoming an Eagle Scout, Mr. Yarbrough "grew up" in the law from the age of 18 by working throughout college for a criminal defense attorney who represented inmates involved in the 1980 New Mexico State Penitentiary riots, and other notorious characters. He interned for the United States Senate Budget Committee in Washington, DC in 1983 and put himself through UNM courtesy of American Legion speech scholarships. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He began clerking at Butt Thornton & Baehr in 1986 during law school and remained with the firm until 2015.
