Paul A. Sturgul is Of Counsel to the Elder Law and Trusts and Estates firm of Sturgul & Long, S.C. He has practiced Elder Law and related Trusts and Estates Law throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin. He is certified [emeritus] as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation [NELF]. He served as NELF's President from 2001 until 2006. Mr. Sturgul is a Fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys [NAELA], has served on NAELA's Board of Directors, and is a Charter Member of NAELA's Council of Advanced Practitioners. He has served as Chairman of the Elder Law & Disabillity Rights Section of the Michigan State Bar, as well as Chairman of the Elder Law & Special Needs Section of the Wisconsin State Bar, where he currently serves as an Advisor. Mr. Sturgul has actively worked to develop the field of Elder Law, and his accomplishments in Elder Law have been widely recognized. He is a regular guest on WNMU - PBS, channel 13, Marquette, Michigan, on Elder Law Issues. Mr. Sturgul was named Volunteer Attorney of the Year by the Elder Law & Disability Rights Section of the Michigan State Bar for 2018. He received the 2007 Law-related Education Attorney of the Year by the Wisconsin State Bar. Mr. Sturgul. has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2013, and has been named a Wisconsin Super Lawyer for 2005-23. He is a Fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation. His law firm received a Tier 1 ranking for 2022 by US News and World Report. Mr. Sturgul is a member of the International Federation on Ageing [IFA]. He has presented at IFA conferences in Prague and Montreal. He has taught Estate Planning for the Practice Skills Course at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and Elder Law at the Peoples Law School at Northern Michigan University. Mr. Sturgul has also lectured on Elder Law topics at the University of Toronto. He has been the keynote speaker at the Ashland-Bayfield Counties' Estate Planning Program. Mr. Sturgul was a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging. In 2018, he was a delegate to the United Nation's Open Working Group on the Rights of the Elderly. In June, 2022, Mr. Sturgul spoke at the 7th World Adult Capacity Congress in Edinburgh.Mr. Sturgul enjoys a professional life that includes private practice, advocacy, public speaking, teaching, research, and writiing. Mr. Sturgul is also active in community and civic affairs. He serves on the board of directors of Wisconsin Public Radio. He is a member of the Iron County Historical Society, and has served on the Advisory Committee of North Lakes Community Health Clinic.In his free time, Paul enjoys bicycling, walking, gardening, photography, listening to classical music, reading, and traveling.
