Mr. Sawtelle went on to study law at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where he concentrated in trial litigation before earning a Jurist Doctor in 2001After law school, Mr. Sawtelle immediately accepted a position as an Assistant Public Defender in Seminole County before transferring to the Volusia County Public Defender's Office, where he practiced criminal defense in the County and Circuit Courts between 2002 and 2006.During this time, Mr. Sawtelle gained valuable criminal defense experience in the areas of; motion practice, depositions, negotiation skills, and criminal trial litigation by defending indigent clients charged with various felony crimes; including capital sex batteries, armed robberies, aggravated assault and batteries, armed home invasion, DUI manslaughters, drug trafficking, and other various felony and misdemeanor crimes.Mr. Sawtelle has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2002 and in U.S. Middle District of Florida since 2004.
