I started working for a local Mortgage Broker shortly after graduating from Miami University with a degree in Finance. I enjoy using my finance background to personally develop a mortgage plan that meets the goals of each unique borrower. I love working with first time home buyers looking for their new home, or someone looking to upgrade to the home of their dreams. Over the years I have utilized conventional financing, FHA loans, VA loans, Jumbo Mortgages, and portfolio lending to help my clients accomplish their goals. What advice would you give new or first time home buyers? I would tell First Time Home Buyers to prepare early in the process by talking to a mortgage professional. By discussing their mortgage options and personal credit report profile early, first time home buyers can develop a plan leading into the biggest investment of their life. It is important to feel comfortable with your new mortgage payments. All home buyers need to prepare for unexpected costs after closing and should have the ability to save comfortably. What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process? Being organized for your initial loan appointment sets the tone for an easy loan process. To insure a smooth underwriting process, I tell my clients to make sure they avoid any changes to their credit profile during the entire loan process and to return documents requested within 24-48 hours of requesting them. There is a lot more documentation so it is important to return items quickly to insure a smooth process. Also, don't request additional credit, ie credit cards, auto loans, etc while you are in underwriting.
