Matthew, rooted in Carter County, Tennessee, pursued hiseducation at Hampton High School, graduating in 2001 before attending AustinPeay State University. As a dedicated student-athlete, he played football forthe Governors until 2004 and completed his degree in English, graduating MagnaCum Laude in 2005. During his studies, he actively participated in studentgovernance and held an executive role in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.In 2006, Matthew advanced his education by attendingSouthern Illinois University School of Law. During this time, he interned underthe late David Crockett in Elizabethton and with the District Attorney's Officein the First Judicial District. These internships provided him with valuableinsights into the needs of eastern Tennesseans. In 2009, upon graduating,Matthew returned to Northeast Tennessee to contribute to his community. Hemarried in 2011 and began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney,focusing on drug offenses.In 2023, Matthew transitioned to Baker Foster Potter, P.C.,where he now leads their criminal defense efforts in the region. His extensivelegal experience includes over 60 criminal jury trials, significant involvementin homicide cases, and appearances on "American Justice." Matthewalso contributed to founding the First Judicial District's Felony RecoveryCourt.
