For more than 30 years, Mark has offered practical resolutions to complex disputes. Mark Schneider is a seasoned mediator and arbitrator. He resolves disputes in matters involving environmental cleanups, allocations, and natural resource damages; citizen suits and government enforcement actions; insurance; energy; real estate; land use; business transactions; and torts, contracts, and commercial litigation. Prior to focusing on mediation and arbitration, Mark served as lead counsel on some of the nation's most significant environmental matters, including the Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund Site, Portland Harbor Superfund Site, and Kalamazoo River Superfund Site. He represented clients in landmark sediment, groundwater, and natural resource damage proceedings, as well as in litigation and negotiations with the U.S. government regarding contributions to contamination at its contractors' facilities. Mark's practice involved the full range of environmental, energy, natural resource, and land use issues. He assisted clients with permitting, compliance, and regulatory matters under federal and state laws, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and various state statutes. He also handled environmental litigation matters, including the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980; state Superfund and multiparty allocation proceedings; natural resource damage claims; defense of project permits, licenses, and other governmental approvals; government enforcement actions; investigations; toxic tort; insurance recovery; and citizen suits. Additionally, he advised clients on climate change and sustainability issues. Mark is an elected fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers.
