Prior to 2002, I served in the U.S. Navy for eight years in the Nuclear Field Submarine Service and served as an instructor. During my time in the Navy, I also obtained my BS degree. After serving my country, I then worked in the nuclear power industry for the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, TN, for nine years. During this time, I developed an interest in stocks and investing. I started two investment clubs and was a founding director of the Knoxville Regional Chapter of the National Association of Investment Clubs (now known as Better Investing). I then turned this hobby of investing into my career by joining Edward Jones in 2002. My wife, Cathy (also with Edward Jones), and I have two children, Ashley and Jace, and six grandchildren: Brianna, Brooke, JC, Isaac, Lydia and Olivia. I am a fourth-generation Kansan and grew up in Manhattan. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, aviation, antiques and sports activities with my son.
