Dr. Erin Gaffney is a registered patent agent for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and is a member of DLA Piper's Patent Prosecution practice in Seattle. Erin's practice focuses on patent prosecution for clients in the life science and chemical industries related to small molecule, nucleic acid, and peptide chemistries and systems. Her experience spans a wide range of chemical and biological technologies and enables her to efficiently understand technology and assist inventors with their intellectual property needs. Erin has a broad area of research experience including studies of extremophilic bacteria, next generation sequencing, nucleic acid secondary structure and thermodynamic analyses, and biosensor development. She is confident in multi-disciplinary experimental techniques including electrochemistry, surface characterization, genomics, bioinformatics, and biological assays. Erin completed postdoctoral research with an NSF-funded Center for Chemical Innovation (CCI) at the University of Utah studying electro-organic synthesis and aiding in overall center collaboration between leading electrochemistry research groups across the nation.
