"It is better that ten guilty person go free then one innocent person suffer" are the words the English jurist William Blackstone in his infinite wisdom uttered in 1765. Those words are true as everyone is entitled to a dedicated and zealous defense when they are accused of a crime. It's what makes our system the best system in the world as every accused person is treated the same with the assurance that the government must prove their guilt "beyond a reasonable doubt", and it is the government that has this complete and total burden. When the government's power is put to the test it makes even less likely that an innocent person will unjustly be found guilty and go to jail.I gained my trial and courtroom experience first as a public defender before opening my private practice.
