Brian has helped clients with issues related to cryptocurrency, particularly with respect to the Bank Secrecy Act (also known as the Anti-Money Laundering Law) compliance and bridging the gap between vendors and depository institutions.For nearly two years, Brian worked with federal regulators (including the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve, and DOJ) as independent legal counsel, assisting with the largest mortgage default servicing audit in U.S. history, the Independent Foreclosure Review. He reviewed foreclosure and default servicing practices among the nation's largest mortgage lenders and servicers, and helped develop and deploy testing procedures for the Independent Foreclosure Review.Brian combines his regulatory and enforcement experience with his commercial litigation background to help financial services clients create practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.Brian graduated from Notre Dame Law School in 1998. He then clerked for Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Joel Hoekstra. Before that, he attended graduate school at the University of Miami to study philosophy of religion and philosophy of science.In 2012, Brian was named top business lawyer for information technology law in metro Detroit. He sits on the Michigan Mortgage Lender Association's Education Committee and is a regular speaker on topics related to the mortgage industry.A native of New Orleans, Brian loves his home in Detroit. He and his wife have two daughters. He is a board member at his church and enjoys art, religious history, philosophy, cooking, and showing off the disc-catching skills of Kuyper, his Australian shepherd.
