Attorney Schwarz has been practicing family law since he was admitted to the Bar in 1971.  He graduated from John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 1971.  After earning his undergraduate degree in social psychology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and while attending John Marshall Law School, Attorney Schwarz was employed with United Air Lines, Inc. as a Regulatory Proceedings Analyst.  He prepared and analyzed financial data for presentation before the Civil Aeronautics Board from 1968 to 1971. Benedict Schwarz, II has limited his practice to the area of family law, which includes divorce, custody, child support, mediation and adoption to ensure that his clients receive the highest degree of representation possible.  He is also a court approved family law mediator.  Attorney Schwarz has served as a member of the board of directors of the Lawyers Assistance Program.  Further, he is a trained LAP intervenor.  In 1992, he was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court as a Commissioner of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.  The ARDC is an agency of the Illinois Supreme Court that is responsible for maintaining current records of registration and discipline information for lawyers licensed to practice in Illinois.  The ARDC also investigates allegations of misconduct by lawyers, and prosecutes the cases where a lawyer’s misconduct suggests a threat to the public or to the integrity of the legal profession.  In 2001, Attorney Schwarz was appointed Chairperson of the Commission; the ARDC Commission consists of four members of the Illinois Bar and three non-lawyers.  He served as the Chairperson from 2001 to 2010.  The commissioners, who serve without compensation, establish ARDC policies, appoint members of the ARDC Inquiry and Hearing Boards, and subject to the approval of the Supreme Court of Illinois, appoint the Commissioner’s Chief Executive Officer and the Administrator.  After serving his term as chairperson, the Illinois Supreme Court appointed him to sit on the Review Board of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission from January 2011 to current.
