Sophia Mai is the Managing Partner at Gividen Law, PLLC, whose personal and professional experiences allow her to connect with her clients while providing them with sound legal advice. As the daughter of parents who immigrated to the United States from Vietnam, Sophia's personal understanding of the life changing impact immigrating to the United States has on a family drives her passion for helping noncitizens today. To that end, Sophia's current practice focuses on removal defense, bond hearings, naturalization, family-based petitions/applications, nonimmigrant visas, work visas, and immigration. She is fluent in Vietnamese. Sophia began her career as a law clerk for the Honorable Paul D. Stickney and the Honorable Rebecca Rutherford U.S. Magistrate Judges for the Northern District of Texas. During her clerkship, Sophia honed her research and writing skills, while simultaneously gaining unparalleled insight into courtroom advocacy. Her experience working closely with these judges provided her with invaluable insight into the judicial process and a deep appreciation for the importance of fair and impartial representation. After her clerkship, Sophia became an Assistant Chief Counsel for the Office of Chief Counsel, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In her time with DHS, Sophia represented the government in thousands of removal cases involving a wide range of immigration issues, including inadmissibility/removability, removal hearings, bond hearings, applications for relief from removal, and advising DHS agents/officers on legal matters related to immigration investigations. Sophia's tenure with DHS equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of immigration law and enforcement procedures, as well as the complexities and challenges faced by individuals within the immigration system. As a daughter of refugees and driven by a passion for justice and a commitment to protecting the rights of immigrants, Sophia shifted her focus to private practice as an immigration attorney. She now provides dedicated and compassionate representation to clients facing immigration issues. Whether assisting with visa applications, defending against deportation, or advocating for asylum seekers, Sophia is committed to guiding her clients through the legal process with integrity and professionalism. Equally important, Sophia is a trusted advocate for immigrants seeking to navigate the complexities of the immigration system and build a better future for themselves and their families. In addition to her legal practice, Sophia is actively involved in the legal community. She is a Director for the Dallas Asian American Bar Association and currently Chair of its Community Service Committee. She is also a co-founder of The Podium--an organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of Asian women lawyers.
