Three ways to escape the stress of job hunting

Veronica C. | May 21, 2012

While you may not have expected your post-graduation search for internships and premium entry level jobs to be easy, finding yourself still unemployed after several months of interviewing and applying can be incredibly frustrating. Despite the fact that you’ll only land that first opportunity by being persistent in your search, sometimes you just need a break to recharge your batteries. Here are three ways to escape the stress of job hunting – even if only for a little while.

Treat yourself to a meal
Enjoying some delicious comfort food is a great way to escape the tedium of filling out online applications. If you have some spare cash to spend, consider treating yourself to a delicious lunch at your favorite local restaurant. For times when you need to be more frugal, preparing a fancy homemade meal can be just as rewarding.

Bike ride
Considering that the beginning of your job search will likely take place during the summer after graduation, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beautiful warm weather. If you feel like you can’t stare at your computer screen for another minute, hop on your bike and go for a relaxing ride around town to cool off.

Take the night off
Sometimes, a half-hour or hour break simply isn’t enough time to deal with the frustration of an ongoing job search. During these drastic times, taking the night off is often the best solution. While you don’t want to make this a habit, indulging in some quality “me time” for an evening is exactly what you need. Watch a movie, meet friends for drinks or just go take a nap – whatever you need to come back fresh the next morning.
