Interview Resources for Internships
Interviewing for Internships
You came to the right place if you are you preparing for an internship interview. We are well aware interviews can be intimidating and nerve-racking. You may be thinking: What do I say? What are they going to think of me? What are they going to ask me?
These are all reasonable concerns, but remember, the interview is a two-way street. You want to know about the company just as much as they want to know about you.
The key is preparation… and the best way to do that is to think about the questions you will be asked. If you are Googling “job interview questions” you might get results more suitable for a full-time job. Since you are not expected to have a ton of professional experience, interviewing for an internship or co-op opportunity is different than interviewing for a full-time job. You most likely won’t be asked questions that have to do with your experience, but more so about your career goals and skills you have developed in college.
Here are some questions that you might get asked:
1. Why are you interested in our company?
2. What are your career interests and goals?
3. What interests you about this position?
4. What is your most interesting class?
5. What skills can you bring to the internship?
Take some time to really think about why you want to work at a company so you don’t get caught off guard during the interview. At the same time, have your own questions for the interviewer in the back of your mind. Learning is one of the key aspects of an internship experience, so here are some questions that you could ask the person interviewing you.
1. What kinds of projects will I be working on?
2. What skills will I gain from this internship?
3. What can I expect to learn?
4. What skills are you looking for in this position?
5. What are some common career paths in this field?
